Defining the Problem

Approximately 36.7 million people globally were living with HIV/AIDS in 2016.

The social stigma around HIV/AIDS worsens the access to sexual diagnosis. This results to fewer voluntary check-ups.

The lack of data-driven practices by clinics is time consuming and often leads to inadequate patient care.

Mapping the Solution

Book an appointment via SMS from the comfort of your home for privacy, which promotes the ease of access to sexual diagnosis.

Go to your appointment with dignity to receive the help you deserve without waiting in long lines.

By keeping digital medical records, doctors will be able to provide patients with adequate care in a time efficient manner.

Here's what you need to know about Cumasu

The social stigma around HIV/AIDS is limiting the access to sexual diagnosis for marginalized communities in developing nations due to social instability and lack of privacy, resulting in those seeking health care to be most vulnerable. Those groups include women, homosexuals, and transsexuals. On a much broader scale, the HIV/AIDS and STI pandemic is also set in motion of a vicious cycle. By killing people in their most productive years, it increases poverty, reverses progress in education, lowers labor productivity, threatens food security and slows economic growth. These setbacks bring forth the epidemic and undermine prevention and treatment efforts as a whole.

This is why we founded Cumasu, a mobile platform that allows users to make real-time appointment requests with the right clinics via SMS for discretion while utilizing the technology to aid partnered clinics to be more data-driven in improving their outreach program and ultimately their target communities. The platform will also aid doctors in keeping track of medical records on each patient to make sure it ensures continuity of care for the patient.

Here's what you need to know about Cumasu

The plan for Cumasu in the coming months is to continue developing the mobile platform to be as accessible as possible through SMS for rural parts of developing nations. We are aiming to incorporate a calendar system to the platform alongside a natural language API to help users to determine appointments with practitioners. Next, we will be looking into the opportunities of utilizing blockchain technology for medical record keeping of each patient.

We are planned to be on the ground in Kampala, Uganda in January 2018 to start our first pilot run for the next 9 months to work with both clinics, and potential users to do fast prototyping to understand how we can improve the user experience on both ends.
